Nick you got a link? I have been hearing all about them but no one seems to be able to find anything in black and white.

I agree, I like the new regs that are going to be coming out. However there's a lot of people in the sport fishing industry that don't like it.
The new regs for Calico, Sand, and Spotted Bay Bass were voted in yesterday. The bag limit will be 5 bass and they have to be 14" in length. Some of the party boats are saying this will cause some to not go fishing on their boats. I don't see how that will effect them really. So they can't keep as many fish, practice CPR and have fun. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ad.php?t=15773 There was another post on this same subject started yesterday also.

I would've liked it better if they made it a slot limit instead, say 10 fish 14-18". Even if the people still go on the party boats, it'll affect their tips/fish cleaning money for sure.

I would be fine with the new regs if that is what they will be. I think maybe for a couple of years the fleet counts will go down but in the long run it will boost the bass population. And bigger fish maymean bigger tips.

Someone has posted about it just being decided at the DFG meeting earlier this week. Maybe first of the year implemented?

They are not published yet and have no timetable either. But the DFG Commission did vote on the new regulations which are expected to be implemented Jan 1 2013.
Here is a link to the discussion on BD which is heated, but has a good bit of info. http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/mar...ommission.html |

I don't have an issue with these regulations, but I see why some may be pissed about it... Especially on BD. I think most of us are good honest people, who aren't taking home more than we need or eat.
Fishing isn't a crime, and it seems that as time goes on that's how it's going to be viewed by politicians. Such a bummer.

Funny how some guys are not the least bit interested in whether it promotes a healthier fishery, without effecting when, where and how many you can "catch" I don't think they need to do a $1,000,000 study on this one. It will make for a healthier bass stock.

I like the new limits. I'd like the slot even better.
I don't go on the party boats often as I used to. I alway C&R every single bass I catch. It's not that I don't like fish but I am a fish snob (YT, WSB, Tuna, Hali, etc) and I fish for fun. I have had a few deckies complain about the C&R. At the end of the day I always hook them up with a good tip that covers any loss in cleaning fees plus a portion based on service. I give them my count for the day yo include in the boat count. I used to tip as soon as I got on the boat to ensure good service but that didn't always play out the way you'd expect. |
