Found: Mirage Drive
Took the family camping in the Santa Barbara area this weekend. Throwing bucktails in the surf Sunday am, looking for hali's, and I found a Hobie mirage drive washed up on a lonely stretch of beach. It's a bit sand-scoured, and had a few pebbles lodged in the drive chain/cable, but it seems to work perfect and actually looks pretty good. If it's yours and you can tell me where I found it with a bit more specificity AND give a rollicking good tale of how you lost it, I'll send it back to you (you're welcome to reimburse me for postage). If no one claims it, I'll be looking for advice on how/where to acquire a drive-less shell as I'd love to step up from my Tarpon. And, no halibut, but I caught a pretty good guitarfish - on a krocodile (hooked in the nose) - first on a lure for me. |

here's a pic.
I know, I know, you've seen them before, but I had never looked at one up close. Pretty freakin' ingenious. |

Damn nice of you to try and find the owner. Hopefully it wasnt from someone kayaking alone and going down. That was my first thought.
Also congrats on your first lure caught fish! I know how it feels to finally catch one on a lure!

Glad you are here. Thanks for posting this. It was not me, but thanks for checking in here to see if anyone lost it.
Anyone who lost one knows what it looks like. I would take the picture off so you can have someone describe it. |

Add my kudos. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.
(English language trivia item #47-B: there is no singular form of the word "kudos.") |

Thanks for the replies.
Now, what I'm hoping to avoid is scrounging the shekels necessary to buy the floaty part of this rig, so, back to the top before I get in trouble. |

On finding a boat for the drive. OEX Sunset Beach and Southwinds Kayaks in Newport Harbor sell Hobies and do a rental business. They might have rental or demo boats for sale. And, or may be able to help you refub' the drive. Parts is parts.
