Incredable fish. There aren't too many fish I would use a harpoon or flying gaff on, but pacific halibut are deffinately one of them. Mike

Imagine halibut fishing on a kayak in alaska. Wonder if its possible to land a 200-300 lbs butt off a kayak. I know when there that big the charter boats use a gun to kill it once its up to the boat...

I caught a 311# in Alaska on a very small skiff. Shot it 3 times in the head with a 38 before sliding it in the skiff. No way could I have gotten that fish on Yak, not sure I could have even fought it.

After actually having done that on a much smaller model by comparison,
and watching Tony do his thing, as well as having the opportunity to lift one over myself....I will have one of those, and the fight that goes with it, however I will have taken "gaffing lessons"...

BD was cool back when I joined a few years ago but as soon as it went global the whole site and its members changed. Its cool that its gone global but you can't post sh#t on that site without someone giving sh$t.

There are bigger ones on video from kayak. Here is one the guy estimates at "close to 200".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdxQKrIEKqE Howard McKim tells the story of catching a 183lb model from his kayak here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umdUBWxOU7A |

It's a good site for gathering intel on the fishing conditions, but plan carefully what you post because they give no mercy - most of the time in fun, but fail to fully use the search feature and ask something old news and suffer the wrath! |
