This might be interesting, anyone is welcome to attend, I'll post a summary here if there is info important for anglers.
Chapter Meeting on Wednesday the 18th, 7pm at Forum Hall in UTC
This month Colleen Wisniewski will give a presentation on kelp, what effects pollution and changing ocean conditions have had recently on the local kelp populations off of our coast, and what is being done to help.
Kelp beds are critical marine habitats that provide food and shelter to over 800 species of flora and fauna. But just like the old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest and the rainforests of the Amazon, the giant kelp forests are slowly vanishing from the planet. Without intervention, the kelp ecosystem in Southern California may never regain its historic proportions.
Colleen Wisniewski is Biologist/Kelp Project Director for San Diego Coastkeeper. She works on the Regional Kelp Restoration and Monitoring Project in conjunction with the California Coastkeeper Alliance. Colleen recruits, trains and coordinates volunteer community divers that monitor and restore kelp forests in San Diego County.
