I would have stayed calm and called to cops afterwards too. That other driver looked like the antagonist in a rob zombie movie. I ain't becoming some back woods weirdos next science project!

Thanks for sharing that, just a reminder to keep and eye and ear out at all times, this is a great
example, I believe the yakker was toatally prepared, flag, light pfd, phone, video footage, all check check, luckily unscathed, except for the rudder and yak damage, could have been alot worse, looks like he has all the necessary proof to be reimbursed...you just never know, so hopefully everyone thinks about this when OTW, in the open ocean it could get alot uglier....careful out there guys and gals

That is a lucky guy...
He was a couple of inches away from death, or paralyzed for life. Looks like those 2 knuckle heads were going to drive off and leave him there. I guess those bright orange flags don't mean much if the guy driving the boat is not looking where he is going.

Seemed odd to me that he seemed to be looking right at them bearing down on him and never tried to move. Obviously the boaters were seriously at fault, but my head is always on a swivel!

I guess leaving the scene of an accident (possible crime) is a free pass on the water
Can you imagine if that was a car? I don't normally speculate on what I would do in types of situations like the one witnessed, but I will say, those douche-bags wouldn't be driving off like nothing happend! |

What recourse would he have if, for example, the impact cracked the hull and it started leaking?
Perhaps he wouldn't have even noticed until he got home or got the yak out of the water? I probably would have asked for their phone number and very blatantly taken a picture of their boat tags. |

I saw him take the picture as the PB'rs moved away. My meaning was that I would have been far more direct and said, "Smile" while they were still along-side.
At the distance that he took his picture, there is a possibility that a camera phone won't pick up the detail that I would want. I hope this guy found everything that got knocked overboard. For one thing, his paddle gets knocked overboard at 0:20 and it floats away during the video. If there's one thing that bothers me deeply in this world, it is when people are disrespectful/inconsiderate of other people. |

kayak is a vessel or boat and all the same rules apply. including DUI's
had it been me, in those conditions, I'm sure I would have had, at least a little buzz worked up, and no dout those two in the boat were wasted....in any case, just like a traffic accident all parties would most likely get hooked up. Just a little food for thought...protect yourself and stay safe out there. |
