I caught a fish

My personal best, first WSB I've caught since I moved out here. Sucker got down into the kelp and found a hole or something. Took me 15-20 minutes to get him up to the surface. For a while he was down there it was a complete stand still. Had the reel at full 27# of drag and he still was taking line. Finally I thumbed that spool, buried the butt in my belly and waited for a swell, I was pretty much all in at that point. I felt it break free and I thought I lost the fish. I was so mad. Then, a few vigorous head shakes and it was back on. Had a lot of fun and my blood was definitely pumping.

Now I know why you guys are addicted to this nonsense! I've been on the water 4 days in a row since
46" and 36.7 lbs.

That's not a fish that's a freaking Monsta. Congrats on the personal best. Good fishing.

Nice catch Drake, and on your 1st one/PB

Nice way to work him and not let the kelp get the best of ya !

They can definitely give their heads a shake and spit out that lure, just try to never give em any slack in the line, especially after it broke loose from the kelp.

Congrats on a great catch.

The way you are holding her looks like you are about to kiss her.

Wouldn't blame you for one second.

Thanks guys! It definately makes the sleepless nights and early mornings totally worth it.

That pic was me pretty much holding on as tight as I can. When I got him to the boat I gaffed him, brought him on board and removed the hook. I tried to reposition him over the mirage port in my hull to bleed him, and he slipped off the gaff and went over, thankfully he was too tired to swim down and I got hte gaff in him again as fast as I could. I wasn't letting go after that
