Hi Everyone! New Member
I don't kayak fish anymore, but I have an infatable and see many of you from time to time down at the shores and probably out on the water too. Be good to put faces with the names at some point. I R&R fished since I was 3 years old until about 4 years ago when I switched to almost all freedive spearfishing. I am as passionate about freediving as many of you are about kayak fishing. I used to kayak fish as well and really loved it before I started diving. Anyways, I look forward to learning from you guys and some girls too I've noticed and doing my best to contribute to your forum from time to time as well. Even though I don't R&R fish much any more the eyes of a freediving can be very valuble to someone above the water. Oh, my name is Ben BTW and I have a grey 13 ft Inflatable if you happen to see me come say hi. Here are some of my very amateur videos if you care to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pITQE5wnz0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGyK2CraEIs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qg8T3Brj73c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMmGg7NItSM

Cool videos. I thought Baja had clearer water.
Interesting to see the halibut's in their surroundings. |

Thanks guys. I also hoped for clearer water, but made due with what we had. The abundance of life there is unbelievable and makes up for the poor viz we had. There were a couple of times that we had better viz, but mostly crap. Plenty of yellowtail at 50ft, but I was more concerned about taking home some Cabrilla to eat

Nice vid. I'm actually trying to get into spearfishing right now. Just got a spearing wetsuit and am in the process of figuring out what gun to get. Any suggestions?. Also would you mind the company as I've never spearfished before? Was thinking of paddling out and hooking up to kelp as I dive below.

I haven't been going to LJ that much this year, but maybe sometime we can get together. I don't know what gun would be best for you, but a 110cm is a good place to start. Matter of fact, my buddy texted me this morning he is selling his. He has a really nice 110cm Sea Sniper with reel for 375$ I think. That's a helluva deal! That gun is good for halis, calicos and capable of YT/WSB when close enough. My suggestion would be to join Spearboard.com and use the search function. There is a wealth of knowledge there.

For the record. A normal year will consist of at least a trip to LJ every week or maybe every other, but this year with the poor conditions and lack of kelp I haven't done much that way. Hell, the last time I hunted there conditions were very poor. I hunted for calicos by the end of the day laying on the bottom at 55 ft. One my eighth drop doing that I dropped right on top of a 50lb WSB! Game over for that bugger. That's the extent of my LJ diving this year. What an epic place though!
