8/30/pm

Got out @ 4:30 5ish thru some wet to the bone surf. Decent bait but no tail to be seen anywhere. Wind died to nothing around 6:30 and made some glassy conditions. Paddled in at dusk to make the launch at dark with chris ken and chad.We all made it in dry thinking we would be sand crab food . Hung out for 10 xtra min to see if Brad would make it in dry and he did as usual. He could give lessons in eXtreem landings  MKNOTT

I launched at 5 this morning for a 3 hour tour...a three hour touuuur.

The launch had potential for excitement but there were wide gaps between the bigger sets. I went right back to the south inside area and worked stringers for no big fish love. I fended off 5 legal calicos but nothing major there, either. Pretty steady 8mph breeze from the S-SW kept me moving all morning. No activity whatsoever as far as boils/breezers.

Fog dumped in around 7:30 and I paddled in. Once past the point the fog was gone and birds were going ape$hi+ on bait inside the reserve. Couple hundred birds were pounding the surface and bait was skittering everywhere. So awesome.

Changing it up on Thursday and launching Shelter Island at 5am looking for corvina, they've been thicks as flies in there I hear.

Guess I launched right behind Mike into pumping short period surf that was not small. Hadn't done that in a while and I got well drenched, taking 4 or 5 in succession before I finally punched through. Wind blowing steady at first but died pretty soon thereafter.

SW wind had blown a ton of crap off the kelp, very difficult to troll. Made spanish at the hump and headed to the sual haunts. Birds working deeper so I investigated. Big macs on chovie. Quite a mixed swell up, made it hard to see everyone and my VHF battery was dead so I had a lonely evening. Didn't see the others sneak by me on the way in.

Off the hotel on of my greenies finally gets hit hard. GAME ON. Then a seal pops up. Crap, hooked a seal. Tried to bring him in but he would spook every time I got close. After 15min of being towed around I figured the rapidly approaching darkness was going to make it too dangerous for both of us, so I reeled him in as close as could and thumbed the spool to break of the leader. Stupid little f&%$@r. Heard the surf banging the shore the whole dark paddle in, feeling a little rusty on the dark surf landings. Got lucky on the timing and surfed a little one to the beach, but there were some really bruisers now and then. That's it for me this week, off to hike the grand canyon with my parents. Someone show Ken how to catch a fish while I'm gone, no?

No worries Brad! I am attending a clinic at Colonet with some of the best fisherman, cooks, hockey players, bulls hitters and beer guzzlers you know.

Buy stock in Tecate before it’s too late.

At least the YT’s will have a chance to grow you while you are hiking the GC.
