Nerport Beach 5-15-2011, Bad fishing idea. Good Pro Angler Test.

Well I was dying to try the new Pro Angler today. I bought Steve's (From Vista) Hobie yesterday. (Thanks again Steve for all your help) Boy It was a test at the extremes. I knew it was going to be a little snotty. It was an understatement. Winds sustained at about 15-25 and seas were 3 to 5 and they were constantly coming it. The harbor mouth was even rough. Well my buddy (Also in a Pro Angler) and I gave it a go. The boat is stable as can be and between the wind, the waves and the jack offs in private boats oblivious (Or didn't care) buzzing us it was an adventure.

We made about 10 mackerels in 10 minutes and fished the outer and inner edges of the kelp for nothing. Only tried it for a few hours in the morning. Tried some plastics but we couldn't really move around much because the drift was insane. The conditions left us with brush anchoring in the kelp. Even then It was hard to stay tethered.

The good news: I'm in love with the Hobie Pro Angler. I would not have left the harbor in my revolution in those conditions. If I did I would have been in the water in matter of minutes.

The water is 61 degrees and clean. Last year at this time it was 57 and never warmed until mid August. There is a lot of bait just off each point of the harbor in about 45 feet of water. Small sabiki's were the ticket.

I also have 10 mackerels in my freezer waiting for September for bugs.

The ocean ain't Burger King, that's for sure.

Nothing like coming come knowing you made a huge investment on something you'll enjoy for years to come. From what I've gathered it was snotty from NPH down to LJ.
