Best place to fish for them and not have to pay a daily permit would be Loveland Resevoir near Alpine. I had one morning where I got 3 in the teens on crawdads. Otherwise Lake Jennings has night fishing on Friday and Saturday til midnight, I believe. Cut mackeral or chicken livers would be my baits of choice.

For big catfish...
Try the American Canal in Imperial Valley. Night fish with 20 lb test and chicken livers. Big blues are in the canals out there. One of my sons-in-law was out there last Saturday with two friends, and the three guys caught 11 catfish between 8 and 10PM (largest 22 lbs)
You set up a reclining lawn chair, put the pole in a holder with a bell on it, pop a beer or take a nap, and wait for the bell to ring. |
