The Dangers of Pre-Fishing...
The problem with pre-fishing a tournament is that sometimes you find what you're looking for...
This bad girl just barely fit in the kill bag...41inches and 33.6 lbs. This is Seong"s first Halibut... I gave him a pre-tied trap rig and showed him how to set up the weight and trap rig, then I put a Sardine on to show him how to place the hooks in the bait, and tossed his bait in the water...I set the drag and put the clicker on and I said when you get hit let the fish eat it for a few seconds before you set the hook...I peddled about 30' away and his clicker just started screaming...He did a three count and set the hook and the battle was on... The fish came up a number of times but she just didn't want to lay out flat for the gaff and she kept diving back down and dragging his kayak around....I finally got along side and saw how big she was...so I put the net down and got the gaff and game clip ready. She finally layed out flat and I hit her in the belly and she froze up just like she was supposed to...We put the game clip on and it was all over except for the beers and high fives... Not bad for his first Butt.... With the holiday weekend it was pretty crowded at the launch so all the tourists got a good show of the big fish.
