I learned that you need to discuss your dive plan in advance of the dive with your buddy, specifically what to do if you get separated. When diving in these murky waters, different divers have different approaches, but the important thing to do is to have a pre-dive plan. >>
I believe they got seperated. They did have a dive plan, I think that helped. From what the divers were saying, the other diver that was lost was ascending rapidly and his "buddy" didn't want to go up that fast. It seemed they had a "search for 1 minute and surface" plan. I'm no diver so I can't get to technical about it. I'm not sure if the lost guy had and difficulties.
