I was thinking the Tax man also. That thing looked very relieved to have a place out of the water to sit.

Agreed, sealions, if threatened, use their teeth to defend themselves, but then add the movement and that could flip the yak. Best bet to just let the dawg leave on its own.

So what you're saying is...shaking a stick at a heavy organism standing on a slim platform keeping you from the suspected presence of an apex predator is a bad idea. Hadn't looked at it that way...

All kidding aside, hadn't thought of that; thanks.

Throw one of your macks out to the water and he'll chase it - I would think.

Yes, when I was 18 I use to surf IB and Mission and there were Sealions there all the time and I tried to get close to them, but they would always swim away. At the time I worked at Sea World and I mentioned this to my trainer buddies and they said that Sea Lions are nice, but often as a form of greeting they will bite, and if they feel threatened also can be aggressive and will bite also. Just like humans, or any other life form, you will have some nice ones, and you will have some mean ones.

At least the 2 in the photos were little guys. If one of the knotheads perched on your yak you're be swimming. I don't think I'd bribe em off the yak with a bait. That could turn in to a game you wouldn't want to play as well as training the damn things to hop on a kayak to get a reward. I'm thinking a push with the paddle would be in order. If the push didn't work maybe a smack up side the head wouldwork. Mike

Go over to Shelter Island one day and watch the dawgs that are around there. Because people have been feeding them from their boats when they come back from fishing they hang around there all the time and do not leave.
