Hoopin SD Bay

Got out last night after work for a few hours. Landed a couple macs on the troll out for the next bug session, and released a good sized slimer.

Once the tide started heading out the water was moving nicely, just not the bugs. Wound up taking 4, with 2 of them being nice size. Caught maybe twice as many shorts. Slow crawl, but I got lucky. Big moon last night may have something to do with it, but who knows.

Pulled my nets 8 times, all in the 25-35 foot range. On the last pull there were macs swimming all over the place. Thick as the LJ kelp, and it just happened that I left my sabiki at home. Tried getting them to eat a swim bait, but got no love. Wont make that mistake again.

Saw 3-4 destroyer type vessels run in and out of the bay, and a huge hover craft do the same, all after dark. Made for a fast paced, tense paddle back to the launch.

well done!

Don't know if I'll get out this week. Heading to La Bufadora over thanksgiving and may get out fishing, but have heard lobster are illegal for gringos. Don't think I'll risk it. Best of luck and safe travels to all.

I had the same experience last night. Ended up with 5 keepers, but they just weren't crawling. Good tide movement, just not a lot of activity. Maybe its the low pressure coming in.... who knows
