Norcal Fishing Trip 2009
First a stop by the local Walgreens for funny looking tackle. We were fishing for Steelehead with nightcrawlers, and a peiece of bright red of yarn. First day hit the Sacramento River in Chico on my buddy Dave's boat. It was propelled by Jet outboard... I believe that Dave said he can run in 10" of water with this rig Above the Sacramento River, spent many a summer day, floating down in an inner tube, and stopping by beer can beach... I got bit, and as soon as I set the hook, I saw the Steelehead jump, and spit my hook.... Dave moments later lands this nice steelehead, pictured above. My buddy Damion, and I who attended Chico State together, lost the bet on first fish caught, so we had to shotgun a beer. Some other action on Pike, but not much else, winds picked up, so we headed in... Grilled the Steelehead for an appetizer to the lobster dinner I brought up with me. Washed it down with an ice cold Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. Story to be Continued.... Last edited by Holy Mackerel; 11-12-2009 at 10:42 AM. |

The next day, we decided to go into town for some provisions...
Nut Brown Ale, went well with my Rib Eye steak sandwhich and fries. Family shot at Chico State, I spent many a day, studying near this campus placard. On Sunday, we headed out of a Town called Paradise, where my buddy lives. Small mountain town, pine trees, creeks, etc. We decided if once more we can make our way to the high country lakes, which require 4x4 at a certain point. It was worse than it looked. Stopped at the first lake, caught many Brook Trout in this lake. Had to bust out the Sabiki rod. My buddy trying to figure out how to kayak. We tried to push on to the next set of lakes, but this is the second time we have been denied. My stock 4x4 did not have enough clearance for the boulders, I would have had to crawl over to get through. It was about a 100ft strip of nastiness. Next time. On the way out, stopped at a creek for some trout fishing... no bites, but nice sites. I wish I had waders back when I was a poor student, that water is FREAKING COLD!!! Here is ONE of the camping sites, near the creek we were fishing... free camping. From this picture, you can see how close the camp spot is to the creek. no 4x4 required. A sunrise just about Yuba City to begin the next adventure. 10 hours with a 10 month old baby in a Truck... The end. |

You don't even know! Trish went to Punta Colorada with us and proceeded to catch a 35#YFT from the yak and then got stung by a Portaguese Man Of War and still hung out and drank beers taking pictures while I landed my first kayak Marlin. Chris won the wife lottery. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Thanks for all the Chico and sierra foothills photos! I grew up in the bay area and we had relatives with land out there. It was the best fishing for wild bows on small creeks and wfo largemouth fishing on the private pond. No wonder I can't fish in areas that are pressured.
The real question, while at Chico St. did you avoid going to Butte? |

Sweet living Chris. That report made me pick up the phone and call my Moms. She's next to lake Shasta and I haven't been up in a while. Also, I gotta put one of those pocket cameras on my X-mas list and start taking more pictures.
But, starting a 10hr drive at sunrise with a baby..Yikes that's brutal(at least for me). I always leave at 8pm with a couple 5hr energy drinks and they sleep through the nite and I get to miss the traffic and listen to the weirdos call in on Art Bell.

Chico Fish
There is a creek that runs through campus...and a bridge that crosses it. You can see the fish from there. It is kinda like the creeks running throught Bishop, CA,. Trout running through the city
