Just got back, very low attendance...WTF ??!??

Hope more show Tuesday, we still had good numbers but there were plenty of parking spaces.

Some of our Northern brethren made it, Gabe, Grego, and Kiyo...for those who missed it, Grego also handed out sealed bags with hali fillets...will be hitting the grill manana...

Very informative layout, and pleny of paper for your comments.

One thing that struck me as odd though...we have been accused of being "intimidating", among other things.

When I was walking back to the venue, two women, unsure if they were enviros or not, were walking down the sidewalk. I moved to the grass to give them space to walk by...and never got a 'Thank you', or even a glance and a smile...

Some people have no manners...

WTF? All I saw was Nate wearing a wig and flashing us as he zipped by us on his scooter.

Wifey and I made it. The only girl gone wild I saw was my 2.5 year old running around the room.

The attendance left alot to be desired, so I gave the maximum effort assisting people on hand to be sure the speaking points were well covered, and answer any questions I could.

I'm hoping to see 10X the people tomorrow. I wrote (3) pages of comments that directly addressed our issues.
------------
Thanks to the guys who traveled all the way down from L.A. to suppot us.
Thanks to my friend Elbie for attending and giving His comments, in spite of spending the last few days in the hospital as his wife gave Birth, and with No Sleep He showed up.

The Visiting Team is on Your Field, are you going to let them beat you ?
-Show Up- Speak Up. Confer with Us if you need assistance at the meeting.

I spent the entire day preparing and speaking with business owners, sport boat captains, and 1st. time meeting goers. Its time to do the heavy lifting, put your time in.

It was a good meeting. I walked in and my 6 year old son was explaining to Ken Wiseman why he needs La Jolla to stay open.

Attendance was a bit low. The staff is helpful and the RSGs were ready to chat, so find one that you don't know and bend their ear and give them a meaningful personal stamp on what kayak fishing means to you and how you'd like to see the lines drawn.

The maps are viewable here...http://www.marinemap.org/marinemap/

Bump. We need a better turn out. I will post the comment sheets later this morning. You can print them out and fill in your comments ahead of time so they are more coherent and organized.

This is what I posted on Spearboard.

http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=87274

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Poor attendance at Carlsbad MLPA mtg and prep hints for more meetings this week

In a word, dismal for the spearing/fishing people. It was shockingly sparse.

Attendance by consumptives was lighter than expected, and this does not bode well for fishermen and spearos going forward. Ken Wiseman, the executive director for the MLPA was there, and I'm sure the lack of care by San Diego area fishermen about closure of their area didn't go unnoticed.

Perhaps an earlier comment regarding attending only one meeting has been taken the wrong way and has resulted in people de-emphasizing the need for attendance. This is not so for spearos.

Spearos are taking a different tack, and so do kayakfishermen. Understand--we are unique and have very unique needs. We can only do our diving/kayakfishing in a tiny sliver of the ocean, and we need to be extra vigilant. Close a few spots, and our sport is all but dead. These two groups (spearos and kayakfishermen) are encouraging, strongly encouraging, their people to pick up the pace and attend all meetings possible.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Latest update.

The MLPA workshop is coming to San Diego tomorrow night, starting at 5:30PM.

Tuesday, June 30
Marina Village Conference Center
1936 Quivira Way
San Diego, CA 92109
(619) 222-1620

The MLPA people allows you to type up your comments before hand, print them out, and they will staple them to the form at the meeting.

This is HUGE.

Please go ahead and compose your statement on your computer at home during the day in advance (you should have received information on some possible discussion points by now) and print it out to bring to the meeting for stapling on the forms.

A lot of people have worked very hard to hope for better turn-out to save YOUR diving spots. Please attend.

Here is the form...

http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mlpa/pdfs/openhousecomments.doc

They also had a second half sheet form at the meeting. The other form was to comment on specific MPA's on specific maps. I commented on the map Lapis 1, La Jolla 2 SMR. That one would take away a very large portion of our fishing grounds in LJ. That map would kill us kayakers and spearo's in LJ.

Make sure to fill out both forms. Comment on the general draft proposals, and comment on which specific reserve on which specific map you cannot live with.

We had over 100+ people at the benefit tournament. Where were they all last night?
