Interesting Catch! The launch looks like a breeze and the scenery to top it off! You're a lucky person!

Cuttlefish are delicious!
If I remember correctly they tast more like Lobster than Squid. Having never fished there, I can't help but think paddling out past that point in the background and using those things for bait. I doubt we are the only creatures who think Cuttlefish are delicious. Please, for me, take some of those guys out to deeper water. Maybe just a flyline with a 4/0 Owner Gorilla hook or something similar, let them swim mid column for a while before giving them more line to reach the bottom. I'm sure if you allowed them to they would just hide in the sand, no good. Please post the results.

Hi
I wish they taste like the lobster, but no, the taste is almost identical to squid! About the technique that you recommended here in this area it is very difficult to do effect But in other places we use the cuttlefish into strips to catch other big fish! best regards |

They are very good eating. Their body walls are thicker than squid but if cooked right, they are very tender.
Ramos, in that 4th picture "My first catch", what is that stuff in the cup holder? Do you use regular squid jigs? thanks, Nate |

What I have there is a sponge that allows me to clean the dirt that the cuttlefish do they also throw jets of ink as the octopus And yes I use regular jigs thar we can find in any store of fishing in Portugal here you get a picture Responding to rdahl That beach is in teh end of the mouth of a river of fresh water, so the water is salty and if we walk a little further we go out into the Atlantic Ocean P.S. - Sorry my english |

Wow, it shows what is regular in one place might seem quite odd in another. I've never seen squid jigs like that where I shop or perhaps don't look in the right spots.
Fascinating post. |

Those jigs are are available at alot of popular big name tackle shops. Try bass pro, cabelas, meltons,I've got several but can't remember where I got them....Use can also use these on a dropper loop rig, tying several or more on several loops off the main line. For catching california squid of course.

Portugal kayaking
I learned Portuguese in Brasil. I have lots of friends from there and perhaps I'll retire there, although I have thought about Portugal too. I have family in Madrid and in Santander. As I get older, I want to get away from the crowds and settle into a more simple way of life. Both the northeast and south of Brasil as well as parts of Portugal can offer this.
Now that I know there is an active kayak community there.........melhor ainda!!!! I read and speak Portuguese better than I write it. Feel free to PM me in Portuguese. Nao tem problema nem um. A pleasure speaking with you and learning about your kayaking experience. Perhaps we'll meet and do some fishing next time I travel to your country. I'll send you photos of my brother and I doing our kayak thing here in Southern California. Chau, Flat |
