I had not previously read any of "Bluewater Jon's" articles but am very happy to have been introduced. Jon is not only an excellent writer, he speaks the truth. If I had read his article about fishing with the Darkhorse last year about this time, I would have probably caught a lot more fish during my rookie season as a yakfisher.
This season, I am, hopefully, more informed and better prepared. Thank you Jon, Josh and everyone else who has helped me start to figure this thing out. As posted earlier in this thread, these articles are worth reading. http://www.bluewaterjon.com/article/article2.html and http://www.bluewaterjon.com/articles.htm Bob |

Buy a rabbit's foot, problem solved.
It's all luck, no skill involved, luck is the secret...now, being consistently lucky over a long period of time takes a great deal of skill, though.
![]() There's an amazing new article in the winter edition of Kayak Fisherman Magazine that just came out, titled "The death of the outboard engine". I'm a little bias, but I think it may answer some of your questions, check it out!

Taggermike's post is a good recipe for catching a yellowtail, especially in the summer.
Don't overlook the safety gear you will need to fish La Jolla, its is something to be respected. The BWE Information Forum has a Kayak Checklist that covers it well. That radio is your lifeline. |

I would suggest just going down to any place that sells kayaks (Allens Kayaks, Fastlane Sailing Center, Hike Bike and Kayak, any OEX location) or West Marine and pick up a free copy. Much like the fishing websites, a free kayak fishing magazine will drastically improve the flavor of your fresh brewed coffee in the morning ![]()

Given they own this forum, help sponsor pretty much all local kayak fishing tournaments and events, brought us the LJ webcam, I'd say go to any OEX location first. They deserve that, plus they are the best.
Than you can go to any of the other 3 places Josh identified before OEX... ![]() Just for the record. ![]() Easy there Josh. |
