2024 Regs

BUMMER.
The new 2024 Rockfish Regs are now being enforced.
The biggest difference this year is the reduction in Reds from 4 to 2 in possession and a descending device.
From what I'm hearing and what I've read, you must have a descending device readily available for releasing fish. Not just on the kayak or in your kit, but rigged and ready to go.
Good Luck

Isn't there some additional depth restrictions? I read that there would be different times that we would be allowed certain depths.

Yes there are some depth restrictions in the near future but the Southern management area is open all all depths at this time. I believe the depth change happens on July 1st.
Here's a link so you can be informed on the regs.

Went out today and limited on Reds in the first few drops. Limit of 2 is a huge bummer, especially when that's all that seems to want to eat what I'm dropping.

Just finished watching a video clip on Instagram

The guy was pulling in a floating line with what looked about 10 nice size reds in la Jolla.
How many are you aloud on a single line.
Last time I went I only used 2 jig hooks

Just watched the video again

10 reds forsure one line
If you go on Instagram and search rockcod la Jolla you can watch the video clip.
The guys commit was fishing the rock fish opener here in la Jolla might be the best fishing I ever had fishing from a kayak as he's winding 10 rock fish
Hopefully the video is old and the guy is legal, if not what an idiot.

Descender

Promar/AHI has a new descender device that's pretty reasonably priced

This is very similar to the one I have. I keep a torpedo weight tied on the bottom and leave it accessible next to my seat. On the rigs I'm fishing, the weight is connected via snap-swivel. So It's a quick swap from my weight to the descender when I have to send one back down. Doesn't always go as smoothly as I'd like, but getting better with practice!

Jim- Do you have any idea how strict they are in regards to having one tied on to a rod/reel at all times vs. having one ready to swap like this? Thanks for all the info by the way. Much appreciated.

The release gear can also be found for free with some good instructional videos if one does some web searches.
