La Jolla 7-11-2022 on the Solo Skiff - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

Another trip to LJ. After being broke off on Friday I was eager to search again. The surf had big sets mixed in again. Bait was harder to find. Got closer to the Rival bait ship for Everingham Bros. and got some video of the gathering of the purse seine net, they catch the bait for the local bait barges. Chased all bird or Dolphin action I could see, while searching all the usual areas for good fish marks on the FF. Dropped and cast on large bait marks many jigs, got hit a few times, but the rock fish just didn't get hooked. This last week there has been less individual large fish marks, but more bait. Had several Sardines that I trolled get scraped but no hook up. Shure looked like Calico marks in over 100' off water. Keep on looking for when both are present and in a playing mood. Meanwhile just keep enjoying being on the water with such a great background. Tight Lines!

Hey Mark, Florida has those clear lumps of jelly that get stuck on the line also. Looked super fishy out there, only a matter of time before something happens.

Thanks John, yeah condition look good and somedays the bite is on and other days it's like no one is hungry. Another guy watching through UTube answered that those are Sea Salps. Read up a little and was surprised at their complexity. They even have a brain.

It's always a tough bite 5 days before a full moon and 4-5 days afterwards, unless you're twilight fishing and or there 2-3 hours before sun rise.

Agree......When the fish can see the bait and feed all night, makes it tougher to get them to feed/bite during the day. If one misses the twilight bite, for pelagics it's often better to wait until late afternoon when they might get hungry again. An exception is for fish that spawn on the full moons, they are hungry.
