Loading kayaks? - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

To my people without a truck or trailer, how have you best transported yours? I have a hobie outback and I'm trying to get ideas of how to best transport it without having to flip it upside down everytime I head out. Thoughts... opinions? Pics are best too! Thanks!

I put pvc bunks on the cargo rack then made a Tbar to help load. I now have a Tacoma with ladder rack and use the same system. Work well for me.

The majority of car top kayak anglers in my area don't bother to flip the kayak upside down as recommended. They just slide it up on the roof racks and lash it. A buddy of mine used a raised T-bar on a tow hitch for his 300zx sports car to make a more level lash area on the roof.

2018 Outback - standard transport vehicle is an '06 Honda Element.

Thule racks and saddles on the Element.

Place cushion under rear of Outback and on roof of Element.

Place Outback at an angle against rear of Element, top facing out. Lift from rear of kayak, slide on to saddles, align, and strap down (cross body, nose, and tail)

I haven't seen anyone using any rig to load a kayak. Just slide it on to the roof and strap it up.

On my escape I use a cordura mat that I lay on the back corner, lift the nose on and pick up the back and slide it forward. On my focus because of the antenna, I use a side load bar then lift the back and slide it over. I will probably stick with side load on my next vehicle as it's got a spoiler. I've got a 2019 outback and run it hull down on the racks no problem.

To load on top of a SUV I carpeted two 8-foot 2x4s with ladder hooks on the end. Makes it easier to slide up on top. But then I got a trailer for the PA to take up even more garage space
