Off SE Florida, we rarely throw hard irons as done on the West Coast. Our biggest surface action is on False Albacore, Mahi, and Blackfin Tuna. Usually, the acrobats are chasing micro baits that drift in on weedlines. In which case, a large iron will be ignored, but matching the hatch with a Crappie jig can be productive. A friend of mine hooked a sailfish on a Crappie jig(elephants eat peanuts). When the baitfish are bigger, poppers can be productive.
