Lakes

Looking into getting into so freshwater kayak fishing. Been doing tons of ocean fishing but ready for some lakes. Any recommendations for some good lakes to kayak fish on? I’m located in Long Beach. I know pyramid but anything closer?

Perris has been very hit and miss this year but there are some good schools of Stripers if you can troll deep, either lead core line or a downrigger. You could catch them on the surface if they would let you on the lake before sunrise but since you can't get on the lake until the sun is on the water the stripers go deep and you can't get them on surface plugs

Interesting, I thought the Perris striper population was a thing of the past and I've never tried fishing there. I've been able to catch them on other lakes that don't allow sit on tops on a boat by sinking a fly deep like 15-25 feet.

The stripers are there to stay, they will start decimating other fish populations like they have at Silverwood. Deep fly should work the same. A friend who is a ranger at the park tells me they are there for those who fish for them. Deep troll a fly on leadcore, once you find the right depth you have them. I'm going to go with a downrigger since I haven't done the leadcore thing yet.
