LB local wrecks & Cabrillo
local wrecks outside of LB (northeast of the horseshoe). a few 13-16" sculpin. some sand bass up to 20". And some of the biggest green backs i've ever caught. Some of the macs pushed 18". there was also a mako 40# class stealing macs from us. water temps 65-67. Drifted inside cabrillo beach in the shallow water habitat. 18-22' deep. water temp 65-66. managed 2 halibut rakes, 2 short halibut, and 1 legal 23" for 5 drifts. the fall season spawning still hasn't started up yet, but hopefully it will soon. also did a few hoop drops from sunset to 8pm as i had things to do later. 30 minute pulls with sardine/mac as bait. 4 no-need-to-check legals, 2 credit card shorts. bugs still aren't crawling well in LB for us as we think the water temps are still a bit too warm.

Thanks for the report!
I’ve been thinking of hooping in Cabrillo but wasn’t sure where to drop the nets. Was the launch outside the breakwall/harbor? |

if you hoop, i'd avoid the main breakwall. drop nets around the rock walls all over LB harbor. be sure to obey the signs that say to stay off 50yd of the crane areas.
i've hooped outside of the wall over on the cabrillo side, but mainly pull lots of spider crabs out there instead of lobsters.

Glad to hear you got a keeper halibut! Enjoyed the report as it brings back a sense of nostalgia from when I lived in Pedro.

got a report from a buddy saying he fished the navy mole and landed a 29" halibut. hopefully this isnt a fluke and the halibut are starting to actually move in. will be taking my buddy out on my boat this weekend because he wants to load up on some lobster bait and maybe we'll drift for some flatties again.
