For DI and SI faster you will get a clearer picture but it’s definitely not a problem if your going 1-2 mph. I have a HDS 7 on my PA and wouldn’t go any smaller. I usually run DI,SI and normal 2d sonar on the same page so I have a really good view of what’s going on around me.

The speed recommendation is probably based on when you are using the SI and DI for mapping. It is slow enough not to miss anything, but fast enough to dilute the errors from cross wind and current. Your transducer will always assume that you are traveling straight in the direction your GPS shows. If you have some drift from wind or current, the SI and DI will have some error. If you were paddling backwards, the SI and DI would show exactly opposite (right is left and left is right).

Well I bought the Garmin Echomap Plus 73sv which was on sale at BPS. Im hoping to get on the water this Saturday at NPH and will post up my results. Keep in mind I have no experience with this level of FF so Im excited and scared at the same time. Youtube has been my friend nightly!

I have the same Garmin 73sv FF. It is a great model. I keep having problems with mine losing connection to transducer.
Beside that, it is amazing. |
