Let me guess-the original patent on the Mirage Drive is up and now there’s blood in the water?
I like Robert field, but I lol’ed at his video when he referred to it as “ridiculously cheap” and then saw that the MSRP is basically 10% off a compass, but if you gave it a front hatch and took away all of hobie’s years of Quality control and customer service. Don’t get me wrong, I know you have to sell what you’re selling, but the whole air of “revolutionary” and new made me roll my eyes Not surprised he is doing a fundraiser campaign now. You’d be amazed at how many start ups see these crowdfunders as more of a promotion and marketing platform than fundraising. |

That looks like the Walmart knockoff version.
$1800 is still not cheap. Might as well spend a few hundred more for the real thing with a better updated drive. My understanding is the original patent expired but the upgrades to the drive have new patents.

A steep price for an unproven product but still some decent customizable options like the seat that moves up and down.

seems like they are selling factory direct at least with the pre orders, they should be able to sell them for a lot less if that is the case and where do they get serviced? Do you just get referred to the local Hobie dealer?

What is really weird is that it does not look like they copied Hobie, it looks like they are using actual Hobie parts in their design at least on the proto-type.
