Stock pond management.......

On the ranch we would call this a "management buck", an old trophy that did it's job and has little to offer the herd. She had some crazy scratches on the other side, it looked like she was attacked by a bear (Knothead).

I went fishing at the stock pond (La Jolla), to make sure the Yellowtail are where I left them. Sure enough, the stock is doing well and just one other kayak angler around (I hate summer crowds). Yellowtail fight so hard, even with half a tail I took an incredible sleigh ride.

Fortunatly Paul has a Hobie Adventure, and managed to catch up for a photo. One beautiful Sardine was sent to the depths, and one ugly Yellowtail came back up.

Thinning out the heard !

Nice Josh, you have the most patience of anyone I know and it pays off for you! I know you just waited around for that and he finally showed! Did the seal attack before or while you were bringing it in?

This "buck" would of scored around 185 points on the Boone and Crocket scale, but didn't score as high, due to the broken tine .

The wound looked to be a couple of weeks old, and was healing rather nicely. He was fairly healthy considering, with a good fat reserve, and was obviously eating. I'm sure the tail would of grown back, and the fight was strangely more difficult as I couldn't get the fish to turn on it's side, thus holding his depth quite well. I'm sure this fish had broke a couple of hearts in his time, and even gave Knothead a big , a trophy that I'm proud of.
