Possible, but it looked too wide. I never heard anything breathing either. I know that sea critters can hold their breath for a long time, but this didn't take a breath before disappearing, and I only saw one seal later in the day away from that spot.

Mola Mola. That is a pretty common sight this time of year for those. Sea Lions typically will leave it above water longer while they are resting.

Looks like a lobster pot with that quality. If you never saw it again, it was probably a seal, however, I've seen baby mako's doing stuff like that out there before.
