I'd like to know how he got separated from his kayak. Safety equipment suggests very careful/experienced guy. I generally think of LJ area as fairly safe except launching/landing in bad surf.

it's pretty easy if there is current and wind, a boat can move a lot faster on the surface than a swimmer in the water

resurrection
For some reason, this post has been nagging in the back of my mind since it started. I checked every day for a week, and News 8 was the only news that covered it. That in itself was kind of "fishy", but there was never a follow-up, and there was a noticeable lack of details. Seems like the story was more about the rescue device than the person rescued. I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist, but with all of the biased news out there, I wonder what the real story is. We all questioned how could the guy get separated from his yak. Why was he wearing a dry suit? Why did no other news agency pick up on it or follow up? Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear? I will leave you to think about it....
On another note, I will be glad when the groundfish opens back up and the big fish bite picks up so I won't have time to think about these things. |

I have the Standard Horizon HX870 and the ACR 375. I also have gps on my Hook 5. It's your life and you need to be prepared out there. Things happen quickly and you are either ready to deal with it or not.

He flipped over....
current and wind separated him from his kayak.
His safety equipment saved his life, he was not fishing. It looked like he had a sealed kayak no scupper holes.after his signaling device went off coast guard reacted.....and he guided them in with his vhf radio After being in the water an hour he thought he might not make it through this....hyperthermia started to set it.
