DANG! Now we know what that's like. Didn't Harry Hill mention lightning liking carbon rods in an earlier post? Nice that they both lived to tell the story.

Just WOW - can't believe what it did to that rod!
Both are super lucky to be alive, and I hope the son does not have lasting nerve damage from the experience. Luckily lightning is a very rare occurance here in Southern California as compared to Missouri... |

the poles in my boat were vibrating like they were on a paint shaker. I told my son to get on the bottom of the boat and just kept running for shore. We didn't get hit but you could smell the ozone and feel the electricity in the air, most scared I've ever been.

Getting stuck by lightning on the water is as
likely as catching 3 yellowtails... Last edited by kayakfisherman; 04-08-2016 at 11:22 PM. |

I'm probably safe then, I haven't caught any yellowtails yet

I pulled the plug on some spearfishing one time when a storm rolled in. There was lightning. I had my buddy run WOT on the dinghy back to the marina, where the lighting hit a few nearby masts. Really spooky. No me gusta.

Pro golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez said if you're ever caught in a thunderstorm to hold up a one iron.
Because even God can't hit a one iron. |
