Got 99 problems but YT aint one - Road Trip

First Time at La Jolla:

So last Friday my fishing buddy and I decided to take a road to trip to finally try out this legendary "La Jolla". We both had work, so some sick days were in order.

We met up and loaded up at 3 am and got on the road from the Malibu area. It took us about 2 hours to finally get to La Jolla.

Lots of kayakers getting on the water. We made the nice smooth launch around 6:30 at first light.

Made bait very quickly. Bait boils everywhere, Biggest bird school I've ever seen chasing bait. Couldn't catch up to them, no luck.

Worked 120' most of the time, then started paddling till I found shallower water. Fished 90 ft of water with a greenback on a dropper loop. Saw a mark at 60 ft and reeled the bait up to 60 ft. Saw the mark come back and HOOOOOOOKUP! yelled it loud with no shame!.
20 minutes of getting towed around of a 30lb mono setup. I get the fish to the gaff. Miss the gaff 4 times and then the 5th slides inside the gill plate and out the cheek. Perfect Gaff, no meat ruined.

Fish on board, I had a really friendly boater take an on the water photo of me and the fish as it was landed close to his Bayrunner. Nice to meet you Garrett.

Fish Measured in at 42" and 26 lbs bled out and dehydrated.

Boater traffic killed the bite pretty good, lots of people out. Didn't see fish landed after 8:30AM

The funnest part was the 4 hour drive back. NOT

Killer Denis! The 2 trips and 4 days I put in last year netted zero so far. Good work and great timing!

PS - Leave after 6pm for the drive home. I have done that trip 25-30 times staying with family.

Sick! They're the women's ones. No shame, its not fashion contest. Plenty of good fish juju on em.

Congrats

Most guys get skunked for the first twenty trips . Would one of those ninety nine problems be that you they ran out of your size in men's waders ? No slack in groan . . Good report .
