Solana Beach YT 9/5/15

Went out Friday morning for a quick strike in Solana. tough making bait at the kelp but scrounged up a few spanish. started heading west and not a quarter mile away from the kelp we had a baby grey whale do an up and down 15feet in front of us. Took us both by surprise and got our heart rate going. So we slow trolled west and about a mile out we found a big school of greenbacks. Made a few more pieces and switched our spanish with the greenies. In the same zone we had a school of skip jack jumping about 50 yards from us and we thought it was going to be game on with something exotic. No takers so we went out and around the orange Buoy about 2 or so miles out. Out at the bouy we saw an elephant seal which was kind of spooky. (Been out 2 seperate times on buddys boats and seen elephant seals in the middle of the ocean and both times no more than a half mile away we have seen big dorsal fins... White sharks stalking...) so we were on high alert. On our way back in we were trolling 2 lines and got picked up by a 14# YT. In the video you can see he had a few buddies (free swimers) with him but they didn't find our other bait. Over all it was a good morning, we did a lot of work for one fish and the waves were cranking. In hind site, probably should have went surfing haha.

Swordfish are known to be seen around Elephant seals too. Wonder if that would be considered an 'exotic' .....

how far would a swordfish drag you before you had to paddle home. Seems like your arms might already be tired after that.
