7/29 dorado hunting
No dorado, no tuna, released a yellowtail that I hooked out in 200 feet on the slowtroll WSW. FYI, I veered right from the launch after hearing that bait continued to be tough. Out in front of the pier along the canyon edge I found all I wanted greenbacks, casting the sabiki into the puddlers. A couple dry paddies offshore and little bit of birds balling up, but no boils, no pick ups 72.9 degree blue water. Dorado or bust! .........A big bull please Killer conditions out there with Jim, Yanni and a few others, love the adventure! longer version

Wow, what a long day 13 hours on the water. Fun peddling out with you guys. You guys stop on the dodo spot and Yani and I kept going
Then we found ourselves way, way south. Going north against a strong southern current can take some time. We had a hammerhead track us for over an hour stealing three macs during that time. I knew yellowtail were being caught in close and needed one to butter up my auto mechanic. Once near the NW corner we tried for yellows for a couple of hours late in the afternoon to no avail. Got close to the condo, Yani out of bait and a long drive home started his way to shore. I had one last mac that I had caught close to twelve hours earlier and decide to have one more try .......... 26 Pound yellow with a great fight makes a great ending to a long day and fun day. I hope my mechanic is happy ..... |

Ya, nothing on the way in for me, glad you found one!
I am a fan of the NRS Chinook, been wearing them for years.

Even though you guys didn't end up catching any dorado I love hearing these reports. The camaraderie, adventure and stoke is awesome!

Is that what it was? A strong southern current? Thought i just paddled out multiple miles since it took 4hrs of hard paddling in. No fish in or out for me but saw a 10-11ft hammerhead eat my mackeral on my kayak.

I made bait next to you guys, then never saw you. I guess this is why!
I boxed a pretty fishy area for nada then hooked a thresher over by the NS around 10:30. What a ride! |
