Need advice,

I have a 2012 PA 14 that I fish from and a 2013 Revo 13 that I let friends use when they go fishing with me. Now I've been considering getting a 2015 PA14 and selling the Revo 13 since talking to a gentleman that says his new PA14 punches through the waves at LJ much easier than his old one. Does the new skeg make that big of difference? My buddies are all telling me to go for it but I think thats because they know if I upgrade that means they get to upgrade to my old sled (greedy b@stard$). Didn't want to get rid of the Revo but wife says 2 yaks is the limit.

Sounds like its time to get rid of the wife....lol sorry I can't help I have a PA 12 ... I might be looking to upgrade to a PA 14 also.

I wouldn't think that a skeg would help going out through the surf. I thought the skeg was mostly for tracking and keeping straight. I have no problem staying straight against waves while heading out. The bigger problem is the weight of the boat and waves coming over the bow and the deck not draining fast enough. I would think that the hull design and weight reduction would have a much greater improvement on surf launches. As many pros as there are on the PAs there are definitely a couple cons. And I think one of those cons will always be surf launches with that boat.

These were my thoughts also, I can see where the skeg will be great when coming back through the waves to beach but launching not so much. Last time though for sure I wouldn't make it out, took on so much water it was coming over the gunnel.

I dont think it would be good to land with the skeg down. If you do get sideways and that skeg grabs the sand. Who knows what could happen. I think the skeg is for pedaling in open water. Keeping the boat tracking straight instead of going in every direction. The biggest benefit is the Lowrance ready system. Having the ducer in the water is a big advantage over a through hull.
