Up and down coastal so-cal, the recent YT bite has been all about deep bait schools on the rock fishing spots. After you make bait, you want to be looking for structure in the 160-200' zone. A lot of the yellows are being caught in 300'+ feet water. You should be fishing dropperloop fin bait on the drift and yoyo iron when you mark the school. If you don't see anything on the sonar out deep, consider a plan B in tight to the kelp on the bottom. But really focus on those deep rockpiles. Hint: lobster pots in deep water are often near structure.

Good luck!

launching at la jolla is about as easy as it gets, drive down to the end of avenida de la playa and either drive out on to the sand or park, unload, then find parking. Paddle strait out from shore until you get out of the mlpa area. Bait can be made all over. Head further west or north to get to deeper water.
