That is one crazy story man. Stoked to see you came out of it with no (physical) injury. I can only imagine you're still a little shook up from it. I'd be lying to you if I told you that I would be back on the water if that happened to me, because I'm not sure.

One question for you on the VHF. To summon the boat in your area did you roll to channel 9/16? Or were you up in the 60's or 70's on a private channel and someone happened to be listening? Wondering how it works calling for distress. Call coastguard and they call nearest boat?

Great question, because we tried the standard 69 and 68 little more common up here and nothing so switched to channel 16. Which the rescue boat as well as coast guard answered the response. I was shocked on CG answering considering location and being at least 40 miles from the nearest station. Did not reach the mainland from Catalina so this was a shock.
