I think the HDI is a new release so you may have difficulty getting it used or on ebay.
I would agree buying new. All the "advanced search" on this BWE forum I've done when shopping for my Elite 4, gps, gold navionics pointed me to go new AND buy the warranty.
One of the crusty old guys said to get the warranty because with all of the launch and landings we kayakers do it WILL fail.

Destroyed my FF this weekend (long story). So now I need to look for another one, yet again.
