Thanks for the response, this may help some other people as well. I am wondering why they weren't complaining of their units acting up.

cross talk ?

throw something at the nearest yak . i agree with changing ping speed or frequency . one possibility is wake or turbulent waters . possibly from your prop wash , like when running at high speeds . you can more than likely eliminate this from the equation if floating on a plastic vessel . . i am still in the middle of watching this video from dr. sonar , so i could be wrong . it's like using a local guide to try and advance your learning curve . pm me if any locals want to check it out .
