Do you have a history of arthritis or joint trouble cause Turning the handle on a fishing reel shouldn't do that to your hands. If it's your skin it might be just irritation from salt water, wind, or fish slime. If it's skin Maybe try washing your hands well after fishing and using a good barrier cream. If it's your joints maybe icing after. But like alenw we said, see a doctor cause that isn't normal. Mike

Swollen Hands
If you are dehydrated your hands and feet will swell. You sweat more than you think on the water and you use a lot of energy. Keep hydrated before and after your trips. I drink enough fluids after that I can't drink any more. When people say they are swollen because they are retaining water they are at a water deficit.

Fish poisoning is also possible. All it takes is getting spined once by the wrong fish. If you do have it it will spread, if it does go see the doctor immediately.

You need to hydrate more. Maybe not so much on the water, but when you are off the water make sure to get at least 64oz. of water each day, and on days when you are more active increase that.

After years of tattooing I'm plagued with arthritis and carpal tunnel. I too get cramping swollen hands after a long session. Especially rockfishing. My wife usually has to massage my hands at night before bed. Anti-inflamatory pills like ibuprofen help but wreck your liver after prolonged use. I'm seriously considering cortisone shots in my hands soon.

As stated by others, hydrating is very important too. You might also want to try an Epson salt soak when it flares and see a doctor incase it isn't something so simple

Yes my I have arthritis in my right hand and I wake up every morning not being able to move it, especially if its cold. Im on arthritis medication and I take 2 doses daily. Yes it does mess my liver up and I have to get blood drawn every 2 mos. But nothing can stop me from fishing.

I get it from time to time. Not really swollen but red and tender and my skin peels on my fingers. Happens from paddling a lot. Gloves may help. Mine are pretty sore now.

I used to get swollen hands, because the latex seal was so tight around my wrist on my water proof jacket. I ended up cutting by .5inch. No more swollen hands.

Best to go see a doctor bro, that could be so many things from simple to more serious.
