LJ Hooping 11/2

Got out late from work, launched after dark, forgot my gloves. Small swell meant I could hoop more shallow water. Found a good spot far enough away from the commercial buoys and started dropping 4 hoops about 50 yds apart. I went back to pull the first one and found that something had chewed through the netting and taken my bait, I initially assumed a sea lion. Added more bait and zip tied it all up and moved that hoop to the other end of my other hoops. Starting getting several shorts per pull and a couple of Morey Eels. One was huge and had it's head stuck inside the bait net it had chewed through. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it but I was more interested in getting it to go away quick. I pulled about 25 to 30 short lobster, no keepers. Nice evening on the water.

No gloves, not recommended.

Must remain cool with one of these between your legs.

Thanks for the report, Dave. You gotta love those LED Walmart lights. I used them last season, and still have a couple left (with good life). It sounds like a fun night. If you need bait cages, I have a couple for your nets.

You are a brave man bringing the eel aboard! Great pics!

Looks like you need bait cages! Check out he new promar bait suspenders they keep your bait centered in the middle of the hoop. They work great!

Take it easy!

Cool pics, esp of the moray. They are actually very friendly, and you can hand feed them....

I think that's the allure of hoopnetting, never knowing just what you'll pull up. Hope ya get some bigger models next time.
