The 717 is a good unit, the only difference between it and the 727 is resolution. I use a Garmin 76 gps, which is also on a ram mount. Using the ram mounts has saved a lot of desk space. The smaller ones are lighter then the originals. I could use a front mounted rod holder, but I'm trying to keep the yak lean.

My xducer should arrive today. I plan to run it in the scrupper hole, but not permanently. I don't want to block 50% of my drainage and it would also mean that the FF base unit would be permanently mounted to the yak. That one of the things Hbird should change - I like the garmin approach. Connecting the cable (one cable) to the back of the head unit.
