Com'on it's a fun chance to pitch-pole your yak with no gear to worry about. Everyone needs to have some time on their yak to practice wet-exits and entries with only mild laughter from the peanut gallery.

Wife and I are both signed up. The more I can get her into it the more time I can spend fishing. It works out for all.

Just in case you have never been here before- the directions to the surf clinic are as follows: Coming from the 5 Fwy North or South: Exit Basilone Rd. Turn towards the beach. Follow the road towards the domes (Nuclear Power Plant) Look for sign that say "Surf Beach" this is the same as "Old Mans" I am pretty sure you turn left and it loops back around...look for cars with surfboards / kayaks waiting at entrance. Most people coming this early are going to the same place. The entrance / gate is near the the large Edison parking lot. FYI you will cross the rail road tracks here. r(emember it cost $10 to get in or free if you have a State Park Pass) Once inside the gate follow the road ...this turns into a dirt road and drive along the beach. Keep going all the way toward the end. We will be just north of the domes on the beach. The gate opens at 6:00am. I highly recomend getting there early as this place fills up quickly. We will do our best to save some parking spots at the beach. This place is pretty EZ to find...FYI -If you hit the San Onofre camp ground you have gone to far. Turn around and try it again. See you all in the AM Were gonna have fun! cabo |

The Ringleader and the star attraction came through Big thanks to Cabo John and Zed. These guys can surf those Prowlers! I had a blast! and will definitely be taking the 3.4 out in the surf again soon and there WILL be another surf clinic. San O Mike shot some video, so hopefully that turns out better than my pix. I had my wife's camera and did not realize she was shooting 480X600 Doh! I was hoping to crop these in tight.
Thanks to everyone who came out. We had a great group. Wish I could have hung out longer............next time!

Thanks fer doing this Andy and eveyone who came out. I know ZED and I had a good time!
I think everyone felt more comfortible in the surf zone. That's what we wanted! Everyone did great! It was good practice and we look forward to the next one. Oh yeah, the bbq hot dogs hit the spot. Thanks fer cooking them up Zed! **I gotta give Clay Harding some credit. He was the youngest kayaker at 6 years old. He paddled a Mini X like a champ through the surf!! Not only does he out fish his dad...he out surf / paddles him also. lol |

My pleasure. Fun day.
The feed-back that I got was very positive, and it seemed everyone benefited from some time to play on their/a yak w/o worry. It was a good teaching environment, since the sets were a long way apart. Maybe 10 min. So it was about 1-3 or 4'; generally 1' with long lulls. Classic, throw-under-the-bus quote of the day: Cabo: "Now Troy, say you fell of your yak, what would you do?" Zed: "Uhhhh, swim?" Thank you, I'll be here all week. Z |
