Was your info on fly fishing for rock fish from the east coast?? I ask because west coast rockfish, Sebastis sp, often live at depths of 100 to 1000 feet. On the east coast striped bass are often called rockfish. Defintely catchable on the fly. Stripers are caught in the ocean in So Cal but there is no reliable fishery. Many CA resevours have stripers, as does the Colorado river, and SF Bay and all the channels, rivers and canals in the Delta. I think the closest impoundments with stripers are Lake Skinner and Diamond Valley. Hope that helps.
