Dodging lobster bouys in Dana Point

Had the day off to get ready for the Marine Corps Ball tomorrow, so I went to DP to try and get a halibut or two. Launch from the boat ramp at 8 it was dead there was only 2 other cars on the parking lot. I saw maybe 2 other boats out fishing today. Highest water temp was 63.

Went out to the headlands and holly hell there are lobster bouys everywhere. I did manage to miss getting snagged on the lines. But after about 30 mins of weaving through them I moved out to 170-220 ft of water and fished for sanddabs. I did manage to catch 6. In the process of fishing for sanddabs My halibut rig still had a sardine on it so I dropped it down to about 50 ft just to see what would happen. Well I forgot about it and ended up hooking a thresher not very big probably are 20-30 lbs but I did get to fight it for about 15 mins hen it broke off. Other than that nothing was going on.
