Deer creek and Leo are both good spots, lots of kelp in the are and depending on the season have a shot at some WSB. I haven't fished there in a since spring. I think I may need to be doing a run up that way and stay in the Leo Carillo campground. I'll shoot you a msg when I go. I usually fish weekends as well.

I am heading up to Leo Carrillo this weekend for some camping with the family. How is the surf fishing and if you know what is working there please let me know. Is there am MPLA restrictions?

I use to surf fish
Just to left of stairs. Maybe 50 yards. It was a spot my dad took me to when I was a child. You can see a large boulder protruding from water. I use to catch lots of shark and guitar fish there. Some over 5 ft. I was using long 14 ft rods , with big spinning reels , heavy weights, and squid for bait. Hope this info helps. Goodluck.
