ok. so whats a short distance for you? are you willing to go a short 3 miles? or do you just want to do like.. a mile?

rock fish are everywhere. just find the drop offs and rock piles. you can hit point loma, la jolla, oceanside, san onofre, dana point, crystal cove, new port etc.

also, you wont generally find sandies and lings together... sand bass like water in the 30-50ft range over sandy bottom with structure near by.

its really not that far... and you'll be limited to ... pretty much nowhere. everything is over a mile. shoot i covered 11 last weekend in la jolla just going back and forth from the reserve to just past the point then covering deeper water in the same area...

I'll tow you out there for a 36-pack of Bud. This does not include fishing spots.

sandbass I'd go to the Big Bay
rockfish pro'ly LJ, work 160-180 ft, look for marks on the bottom.
Lobster season is coming up,
all good rocks will be marked with pots,
hard to miss 'em
easy to save 'em on your GPS

I gotta agree with Drake on this.
Why limit yourself to 1 mile?
You can't paddle, won't paddle, don't like to paddle, don't feel comfortable very far out to sea?? This may sound harsh but this may not be the right activity for you. Mike
