Transducer question for you all

O.K. I have a Humminbird 718 FF. Today I took it out and the thing was flashing 800 feet, not able to see the bottom. Now I know SD bay is not that deep. The temp was reading about 65 degrees or so. I beached the kayak to make sure the ducer was installed correctly and it was. I did a test on the unit to see what all was showing as being connected and all it showed was the Temperature feature everything else said not connected. Am I correct in thinking the transducer crapped out? Can I take the ducer to West Marine to test it? Do they do that? What do you recommend?

I have the wet mount and I have the Electrical Putty. I started the day with the electrical putty, then I beached the kayak and switched to the wet mount. Both had the same temp readings but would not read the depth. I even reset all the defaults and still would not read the depth.
