You may be referring to the "Just for the Halibut" tourney out of Dana Point about three years ago. Dave, always the consumate Master, kicked butt, and the 'yakers did very well overall. Although the biggest fish was landed by a private boater, Dave was right up there, and walked away with a new Hobie and gobs of gear. I think Dave is on to other things and challenges, but never count him out. For those who don't know, Dave is the one who challenged himself to catch 100 legal hali's in one summer (or was it one month?) and just came in a few short.

Funny how the Dana Wharf changed the contest right after that to exclude 'yakers and private boaters. Seems all those commercial boats weren't looking too good next to the rest of us.
