60 Pound Club
60 Pound Club The "Clubs" pertain to yellowtail, halibut and white seabass. Let me know if I need to add a 70 pound club! I will start a thread for 30, 40, 50 and this 60 pound Club. If you have been fortunate enough to reach this level, post em up! No certified scale necessary, post the photos, tell the story if you like. Inspire the rest of us. 4-6-10 After farming three fish in as many weeks,I finally caught this gal.I went straight spectra and was able to wrangle her out of the brush.Surf picked up while I was out and I pearled coming in,losing my glasses and my three go-to outfits(A GUSA with an SX2,Shimano calcutta from washington with an SX2 and a shimano rod with a new Sealine 30)Thank God I was able to save the fish by grabbing it in the gills(OUCH!)that made it all sting less.I have horrible vision so I called a friend to go to my house and get my old glasses. He drove 110 miles just so I could see to drive home.
The fish is hanging on a 50# scale which proved useless.I cought the fish late in the PM and it was about midnight when the pole shot was taken.I was too tired at the time to get a good weight and I have regretted it at times but it doesnt really matter. The fish was a tad over 57" and fat.I am 6'2" and 230 for scale. Did I mention this was my first legal seabass ...

67#'s Certified
With how much squid there has been for these girls to pig out on for the past 2 years, I'm very surprised that no one has posted a bigger one yet. Kinda makes you replay all those fish that you have on for a few seconds before you pull the hook on them, doesn't it? |

I know it's a puppy.
I love the scars on the big fish in these pics!
Almost all of these photos show fish that have seen a lot of drama. Nice fish all. Willy |

Not a lota jabber in 60# club, huh?
60.5 lbs on OEX cert scale after being bled and sitting in the chest for 24 hours... 57” long… 30” girth. God, that was 5+ years ago . ...time flies! Back in the day when you had to drive all the way down to San Quintin for a sure-shot at ghosts.

nice to join the club! 60.2 lb WSB 4/19/12
4/19/12. I didn't launch until after 9:00am. Overcast and pretty large waves crashing, but after watching the first tourist get rolled, figured I could make it out. I took out my 13+ year old Cobra Tandem, just for fun. First drop, 5 nice macs, perfect size.
I only took one trolling rod, no weight. Just pinned on one mac, trolled about a half hour, three times he got caught in kelp. Then after a little while, sure enough, a solid bite, stopped, ran again, twice, and then after the count to seven, line getting low, put in gear and fish on. I knew it was big, and figured it wasn't a YT, due to the strike. Fought awhile, a couple seals came around and I was scared to lose whatever it was. Then it got tied up in kelp. Wow, looooooong time pulling on kelp, with no headway, but I kept feeling it pull now and then. One guy came by, and said, "patience". I had 50lb braid and 25" flourocarbon, and that braid is strong! I ended up after about an hour, literally, of tugging on kelp, just about as hard as I could. I even spent time reading the brand of my rod, praying to spirits, hoping the kelp would eventually break, and sure enough, after about an hour some line came in, and I pulled up a whole stringer of kelp, with this guy attached. My personal best WSB before was only about 15 pounds, (only two before in my life), and the last one was about 7 years ago! (Heads go to Hubbs SeaWorld) This guy was driven down to Dana Landing and weighed in at 60.2 pounds! Oh my god.... it feels good to FINALLY land a big one! Yee-hah! |
