PFD Kayak Camera Mount

I really get off an a few basic things. One is making stuff another is figuring out what things are or how they work.

My Extrasport Osprey PFD has this weird plastic thing that looks like a buckle on the left side.

I don't know what it's for but after years of trying to figure out what it could be for, I finally just gave up and I decided to make something for it.

I always carry a Olympus 770s and as they say it's pretty waterproof and tough. I used to have a case for it that I carried on a belt but one day I made a little bracket for it that fits in the weird plastic thing and locks the camera tight to the vest, always in place when I need it.

With the camera there all I have to do is hit the on button and hit the shutter button and it will shoot a pic hands free.

The bracket bolts into the bottom of the camera with a normal 1/4 20 stainless bolt, and the tab end slides into the plastic thing and is held in place by a bend at the end of the tab.

Since I can turn it on and use it while attached to the vest I can take quick shots, or if I set it up on the movie function I can actually even make vids with it hands free while paddling or fighting fish.

If I want to take real pics like I usually use in my reports, the bracket can slide out and I can use the camera just like a normal camera, with the bracket on it.

I can then then just slide it right back in when I'm done, and it locks securely in place.

I've been using it for a few years now... it holds great and I have never had an issue with it or the camera so I thought I'd pass it on. I love the thing and usually just leave the cam on the vest all the time. Like my Icom M88 which is always attached to the vest it's one less thing to worry about because it's always right when I need it.

Here's a couple shots of how the bracket fits into the plastic thing with the camera off of it. As you can see it's a pretty simple deal.

So if anyone knows what that weird plastic thing is for fill me in but for now at least for me it's the Osprey's camera bracket holder, for my waterproof camera..
